Skills & TEKS Alignment

For the featured breakout Launch Control — aligned to the 2021 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Science (§112.28).

🎯 Misconceptions confronted

🚨 “mass disappears when fuel burns” (atoms only rearrange — in a sealed system mass is conserved); “a heavier rocket accelerates faster because it's bigger” (for a fixed force, more mass means less acceleration); and “amplitude and wavelength are the same thing” (amplitude is energy; wavelength is the crest-to-crest distance).

📋 Lock-by-lock alignment

Recurring themes: cause & effect, systems & models, energy & matter, scale/proportion/quantity, stability & change.

L1 · Sequence
Prove conservation
Order a before → rearrange → after argument showing mass is conserved.8.6(E) conservation of mass via rearrangement of atoms; 8.5(E) matter is conserved in systems.Concept mapping / sequencing (Hattie d≈0.64)
L2 · Multiple choice
a = F ÷ m
Predict how added mass changes acceleration at a fixed force.8.7(A) acceleration depends on net force and mass (Newton's Second Law).Confronting misconceptions / worked examples (d≈0.57)
L3 · Evidence sort
Conserved mass
Keep only evidence a sealed system conserves mass; exclude an off-topic fact.8.6(E) conservation of mass; 8.1(B) evidence-based reasoning; 8.2(D) evaluate.Classifying / sorting evidence (d≈0.60)
L4 · Word
Wavelength
Name the crest-to-crest distance; relate frequency and wavelength.8.8(A) amplitude, frequency & wavelength in transverse waves & the EM spectrum.Feedback + transfer (d≈0.70–0.86)
