TEKS & Standards Alignment

Every module in the Lab Safety Certification maps to the 2021-adopted Texas science TEKS (implemented 2024–25), the statutes behind them, and supports for emergent bilingual learners and universal access.

01 · TEKS

Science TEKS — the safety expectation

In the current TEKS, lab safety lives in Strand 1, Scientific and Engineering Practices. The same student expectation repeats at every grade and course. Its full text: “use appropriate safety equipment and practices during laboratory, classroom, and field investigations as outlined in Texas Education Agency-approved safety standards.”

The statutes and rules behind “TEA-approved safety standards”

The TEKS point to outside authority for the specifics. These are the sources that define what “appropriate safety equipment and practices” actually means in a Texas classroom.

Before you cite these for formal documentation: Confirm every code against your district-adopted TEKS version. The 2021-adopted science TEKS took effect 2024–25; a district may still reference prior codes in older documents, and SBOE review cycles can change specifics. ELPS sub-letters and CCSS-RST codes should be verified against your local framework. These correlations are a planning aid, not a compliance guarantee.
