Grades K–2 Implementation Plan

Pacing, prerequisites, and extensions for the early-elementary band.

The activities

  • Grade K — Meet AI, Ask a Grown-Up. A little AI helper wants to help you. But first you learn the rules. Open four locks to use AI the safe way. (TEKS §126.5)
  • Grade 1 — Check the Robot. An AI helper made a guess. Is it right? A smart kid always checks. Open four locks to learn how to check a robot. (TEKS §126.6)
  • Grade 2 — Use AI Honestly. An AI helper can help you make things. But it can be wrong, and you must tell the truth about its help. Open four locks to use AI the honest way. (TEKS §126.7)

Pacing

  • One activity ≈ 25–40 minutes, including debrief. Younger classes may need two sittings.
  • Run one per grading period, or cluster them into a two-week AI-literacy unit.
  • Order matches the grade sequence; each grade deepens the pattern → data → bias → responsible-use arc.

Prerequisites

  • A browser and the activity link. No accounts, installs, or logins.
  • Students should be able to listen to a short read-aloud and tap or click large tiles; reading is emerging, so plan to read clues aloud and model the first lock.
  • Teachers: skim the activity’s teacher launch page and the correlation guide first.

Extension & differentiation

  • Home-language pairs. Use the 🌐 picker so newcomers reason in their strongest language, then answer.
  • Author-a-clue. Students write a new clue (or a real-world example) for the skill they found hardest.
  • Reason aloud. Require a spoken/written justification before each lock check; grade the reasoning, not the click.
  • Connect to class routines: name your class AI helper examples, practice a clear instruction together, and make a “check it” habit chart.
